Yoga in your own backyard

I’ve been thinking of taking my practice outdoors now for quite a while. In the past I found that it was too soft and not level enough to support my flowing practice and as a result it didn’t last long. Today while practicing with Ann Green from Studio Bliss – anngreenyoga, we were provided with mat sized plywood for under our mats. Wonderful idea! Not only is it a perfectly flat base to support my practice….it’s so much fun to do my yoga outside in the sunshine. There is nothing like nature – trees, birds, water, the earth….to provide you with a deeper appreciation for life, a deeper connection to what is truly remarkable and enriching. Find your Bliss!

In a Blender:

6 romaine lettuce leaves

1/2 avocado

1/2 mango (fresh or frozen)

1/2 cup fresh pineapple (1/2 cup not 1/2 a pineapple :)

1 large handful spinach leaves

1 handful parsley

1 inch piece fresh ginger

2-3 cups of water.

Blend until smooth. Enjoy!

When I made it this weekend it was a full blender and provided around 4 cups.

A beautiful green colour!

Insight from Thich Nhat Hanh

“This is a very important practice. Live your daily life in a way that you never lose yourself.

When you are carried away with your worries, fears, cravings, anger, and desire,

you run away from yourself and you lose yourself.

The practice is always to go back to oneself.”

~Thich Nhat Hanh

Living Your Yoga – Judith Hanson Lasater

If you are going to worry, enjoy it completely.

Worrying is focusing on the future, it takes you away from what is. But if you like it, do it completely. This will make you smile and you will probably stop worrying about what you can’t control. Make today a day of conscious worrying.

Living Your Yoga – Judith Hanson Lasater

Letting go means realizing you weren’t in charge anyway.

We often worry about so many things, most of them beyond our control. Just today, let go whenever you can by embracing the understanding that you are not in charge of the world.

Barrie Yoga for Round Bodies – Foot Health

Don’t you love it that you can now buy tennis balls and help support Breast Cancer Research?

If you don’t play tennis you might be asking yourself, I’d like to get one but what would I do with it……

Tennis balls are terrific for relieving foot pain! You can use them to massage out the pain by stretching your foot.

Place the tennis ball under one of your feet (don’t place one under each foot :) – just making sure you are all safe)

Hold onto a wall if you need to and then press your foot into the ball, bringing it from heel to toe, under the ball of your foot, around the perimeter and intowards the middle, ahhhh, amazing isn’t it!

If you find an area of tightness, start softly then press a little harder. As the elements which make up our foot get used to the pressure and begin to release, you will find that the pain releases.

It is important to keep our feet well stretched as they build the foundation of not only our yoga practice but also affect our day to day living.

Happy FEET!

Where can you get larger sized yoga clothing? Here’s the answer…

Here are some places where you can get larger sized yoga apparel, Thank you to Tiina Veer for sharing this information with us!

Loko Sport Plus http://www.lokosport.ca/womens-fitness-wear/loko-plus-collection
Canadian-designed, Canadian-made, right in London, Ontario!
Lulu Lemon pricing, but also Lulu Lemon QUALITY.
For people who want cheaper yoga clothes, I recommend Pennington’s, and Mark Work’s Wearhouse (up to 2x only).  Pennington’s has a nice pair of yoga pants for about $35, but you get what you pay for.  I wear mine a lot and they pill and “get knees” faster than others.  Mark’s Work Wearhouse is EXCELLENT quality yoga apparel for the price, but only up to 2x.

Yoga with Ann – sweeping the floor while toning abdominals

Have you ever swept the floor with your back?

Yesterday I had so much fun during Ann’s yoga class! It was invigorating and blissful – a lovely combination!

What I enjoy about Ann’s classes is the fun loving aspect she infuses into each class and the “new” things she introduces to us.

Yesterday, I was sweeping the floor with my back all while toning my abdominals!!

Here’s how to do it -

Put a blanket or towel under your back….yes you are laying on the floor…

Bend your hips and knees so that it looks like you are sitting in a chair… (your legs are lifted into the air now)

Place your hands by your ears…

Bring your right shoulder towards your right hip, then do your left side….Sashaying your hips and shoulders back and forth…a little faster now :)

Working your abdominals and sweeping your floor!

Enjoy!
